چکیده
The NUCLEUS experiment aims to measure coherent elastic neutrino nucleus scattering of reactor anti-neutrinos using cryogenic calorimeters. Operating at an overburden 3 m.w.e., muon-induced backgrounds are expected be one the dominant background contributions. Besides a high efficiency identify muon events passing experimental setup, veto has fulfill tight spatial requirements fit constraints given by site and minimize induced detector dead-time. We developed highly efficient compact modules based on plastic scintillators equipped with wavelength shifting fibers silicon photo multipliers collect detect scintillation light. In this paper, we present full characterization prototype module different light read-out configurations. conclude that system can built for from cube assembly modules. Simulations show identification >99 % associated rate 325 Hz is achievable, matching experiment.

The Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment
Relativistic heavy ion beams are an intense source of (quasireal) photons with a spectrum extending up to several hundred GeV, due to the high charge Z and the large energy of the ions. In this note we discuss the possibility of using this in peripheral collisions for photon-photon physics. We discuss the total luminosities that can be achieved with diierent ion species. In order to suppress ce...
متن کاملThe Compact Muon Solenoid Experiment
Optical transmission characteristics of multi-mode synthetic silica-core bers between 325 nm and 800 nm were studied in situ while irradiated with neutrons. In one case, ber samples were placed near the core of a 10-kWatt reactor; in the other, fast neutrons generated by p(18 MeV) + Be reaction in a cyclotron, irradiated the bers. The neutron uence in both studies totaled 10 15 n=cm 2. Both of ...
متن کاملThe design of a flexible Global Calorimeter Trigger system for the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment
We have developed a novel design of triggering system as part of the pipelined hardware Level-1 trigger logic for the CMS experiment at LHC. The Global Calorimeter Trigger is the last element in the processing of calorimeter data, and provides most of the input to the final Level-1 decision. We present the detailed functional requirements for this system. Our design meets the requirements using...
متن کاملA distributed analysis and monitoring framework for the compact Muon solenoid experiment and a pedestrian simulation
The design of a parallel and distributed computing system is a very complicated task. It requires a detailed understanding of the design issues and of the theoretical and practical aspects of their solutions. Firstly, this thesis discusses in detail the major concepts and components required to make parallel and distributed computing a reality. A multithreaded and distributed framework capable ...
